TYPO3 developer: upgrade to TYPO3 14, new builds and maintenance

Your website runs on TYPO3 12? Since 30 April 2026 this version no longer gets free security updates, only paid ones through extended support (details from TYPO3). TYPO3 14 gets free updates until 30 June 2029.

I bring existing TYPO3 sites to v14, build new ones and keep them up to date afterwards. For companies, municipalities and associations that edit their own site, and for agencies that need development in the background for a TYPO3 project.

Three offers

1. New build or relaunch on TYPO3 14

  • Several websites in one installation: umbrella brand and locations, municipality and districts, club and sections. Each site has its own address and colors, shared data is maintained once.
  • Building blocks with Content Blocks: editors pick ready-made elements such as opening hours, team or FAQ and fill in fields. Colors and spacing come from the design.
  • Permissions per editorial team: each team only sees its own pages and files.
  • Fast and lean: images in AVIF and WebP, no page-builder ballast, Lighthouse as an acceptance criterion.
  • No cookie banner for the site itself: maps and booking widgets only load after a click.

2. Upgrade from TYPO3 12 to 14

It always starts with an upgrade analysis at a fixed price. I check your installation, every extension and your own code, and write you a roadmap with risks and an estimate. Then you decide whether and how to go ahead. What an upgrade with me includes is described further down.

3. Maintenance

  • Updates: TYPO3 security updates and extensions, tested on a copy first.
  • Security: checks with composer audit, a hardened server, protection in front of the login.
  • Monitoring: uptime, HTTPS and daily backups. If something fails, I know before you do.

What an upgrade with me includes

  1. Analysis: version status, every extension checked for v14 availability, your own code run through the Extension Scanner and a dry run of Rector and Fractor. Plus a baseline measurement. Result: a roadmap with risks, decisions and an estimate.
  2. Stages: I go version by version, in the demo from 12.4 via 13.4 to 14.3. Before each stage I back up the database and the Composer files. Each stage stays small and can be rolled back.
  3. Log: I write down every problem with cause and fix. Assumptions from the analysis that turned out wrong get corrected visibly, not overwritten.
  4. Acceptance with comparison: I count pages, content elements and files before and after the upgrade, compare screenshots of every page and run the test cases. You get the comparison in black and white.

What an upgrade does not bring by itself

The upgrade alone does not automatically make your site faster. In the Lindenreith demo I measured before and after the upgrade through the same internal connection: the performance scores stayed almost the same, only the citizen services page on desktop rose from 93 to 99. Speed, accessibility and a new design are separate steps. I plan them with you separately, so you know what you are paying for.

Example 1: Auenhaus, a multisite on TYPO3 14

Location website Amstetten, one of three websites from one installation. auenhaus.markusstoeger.com

Auenhaus is a made-up group of GP practices in Lower Austria: an umbrella brand and two locations, each with its own website, all from one TYPO3 14 installation.

  • 15 custom building blocks and 4 record types with Content Blocks: location, team member, service, job opening. A location is maintained once and appears wherever it is needed.
  • Separate editorial teams: the Amstetten team only edits Amstetten, the Melk team only Melk. Automated test cases make sure that nobody reaches other teams' pages, images or records.
  • Security review: carried out, findings fixed or documented.
  • Appointments and map after a click: nothing loads from third-party servers before that.
Lighthouse 13.5.0, measured on 30 Sep 2026 on 6 pages of the three websites (home page and one subpage each), median of 3 runs per page and device. Performance, accessibility and best practices identical on all 6 pages. * SEO 63–66, capped by noindex, the demo is kept out of search on purpose.

Example 2: Lindenreith, an upgrade from TYPO3 12 to 14

Municipality of Lindenreith after the upgrade to TYPO3 14.3.7, home page. lindenreith.markusstoeger.com

Lindenreith is a made-up municipality. I built the starting point the way many sites from 2023 look: TYPO3 12.4.9, bootstrap_package, news and Powermail for the forms, plus legacy issues added on purpose. That version never went public.

  • From 12.4.9 to 14.3.7 in three stages, with a backup before each one.
  • composer audit: 60 security advisories before, 0 after.
  • All content carried over: 24 of 24 pages, 92 of 92 content elements, all 10 news items.
  • Forms migrated: on 1 Oct 2026 Powermail had no freely available release for TYPO3 14. The forms now run on TYPO3's own form framework.

I built the starting point of this demo myself, so I knew its legacy issues. Your site brings its own extensions, its own code and grown content. How long its upgrade takes depends on that and is clear after the analysis.

Lighthouse 13.5.0, measured on 1 Oct 2026 on the public address after the upgrade (TYPO3 14.3.7), median of 3 runs. * SEO capped by noindex.

I did not optimize anything towards 100 here, the scores show the state after the upgrade. There is no before measurement on the public address, because the old version with 60 known security advisories was never allowed online.

Getting started

Send me the address of your TYPO3 site and tell me what you have in mind: upgrade, new build or maintenance. I look at the site and tell you whether an upgrade analysis is worth it. Domain, hosting and code stay with you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to move from TYPO3 12 to 14?

TYPO3 12 has had no free security updates since 30 April 2026, only paid extended support until 2030. TYPO3 13 gets free updates until the end of 2027, TYPO3 14 until 30 June 2029. The goal is TYPO3 14. Technically the path leads through 13 as an intermediate step, which is part of the upgrade.

What happens to my extensions?

The analysis checks every extension: is there a version for TYPO3 14, is there a replacement, or does your own code need changes? In the Lindenreith demo Powermail had no freely available release for v14, so the forms now run on TYPO3's own form framework. You make such decisions beforehand, with the roadmap in hand.

How long does an upgrade take?

It depends on your installation: how many extensions there are, whether each has a version for TYPO3 14, how much custom code needs changes and how the content has grown. That is why I do not name a figure in advance. The duration is clear after the upgrade analysis, together with the roadmap.

Can I edit the site myself afterwards?

Yes, in the TYPO3 backend. With a new build your editors get ready-made building blocks and their own permissions. In the Auenhaus demo each location's editors only see their own pages and files. Automated test cases back this up.

Why are there no prices here?

Because every TYPO3 installation is different: different extensions, different custom code, different content. That is why the fixed-price upgrade analysis comes first. After that you get a quote based on your site.

Will the upgrade make my site faster?

Not by itself. In the Lindenreith demo the internally measured performance scores stayed almost the same before and after the upgrade, only one page on desktop rose from 93 to 99. Speed and accessibility are separate steps that I offer you separately.

Do you also work for agencies?

Yes. I take on TYPO3 upgrades and builds in the background under the agency's name or credited, whichever you prefer. More on the page Development partner for agencies.
